IDAS fun day!

Hi all!

Thanks so much for offering to help with our Fun Day in Clements Hall on Saturday 12th March.

I thought I would send round an update as I am aware that things aren’t quite as slick organisationally as they could be. This is because I am coordinating a much wider awareness raising campaign with a huge number of events and other activities, so please bare with me.

I am thrilled to announce that LUSH cosmetics will be donating 50 goody bags for the first people to arrive to our Fun Day. This is a great incentive to encourage people to come along and join in with the activities and workshops.

We also have the support of Kyra women’s project and Survive who will be running a craft table and/or stand on the day. It is great to come together for this event as part of York International Women’s Festival to raise awareness and help people to get the support that they need.

Julie Gunnel will open the event at 11am and I am inviting all other local councillors too.

Also, we have very kindly been donated a bouncy castle for the day! (Thanks Julia!)

I hope that this will be a really fantastic day with a range or activities to keep anyone busy and create an atmosphere where people feel comfortable and happy and can leave with information to help them have happy, healthy relationships.

What next?

So, we have a lot left to do and I would be really grateful of any help that you can give.

We don’t have any music. It would be amazing to have a few musicians doing kind of busking performances throughout the day, something upbeat but not too loud. If you have any contacts please get in touch with them and beg them to help us đŸ˜‰ Choirs would be fab!

We really need to source a range of cakes and bakes for refreshments. These could be homemade cakes or donations from local cafes or bakeries. If you have any skills or contacts in this area please do let me know. Please feel free to approach people yourselves and let me know if they are able to donate or bake for us. Any cakes and bakes will need to be delivered to Clements Hall at 9.30 am on Saturday morning. Let me know if you need to make alternative arrangements to drop off cakes etc. Thank you to anyone who has already offered.

If anyone fancies taking ownership of calling around cafes/bakeries/shops to ask for donations please do, I need all the help that I can get!

The York International Women’s Festival brochure is out but they printed the wrong venue so we are going to need to really step up our promotion of the event. Can I ask that all of you join the Facebook event page and invite LOADS of friends. The link is below. Also, share the event flyer and cover image that I’ve attached on your social media channels as often as you can. Also, we’ll need to distribute flyers. If you can help with this let me know. Thanks to anyone who has already offered to do this.

Are there any blog sites or web sites that could help us to promote this? Let me know if you think of any…I’m preparing a press notice.

So far we have Kyra offering bracelet making which is wonderful and we discussed at an IDAS volunteer meeting the possibility of having a kids craft table (something really simple like decorating hearts with nice messages, all ideas welcome) and a collaborative sewing/stitching table.

We also discussed having a few games for kids, someone mentioned splat the rat!?! Any ideas welcome and even better if you could lead on creating/bringing a game and running it for the day that would be great!

Information and quiz questions? Ideas welcome.

We also have a workshop space which IDAS will use to run a Healthy Relationships workshop but it could also be used for a nice meditation/yoga/breathing/singing workshop. If you have contacts please get in touch with them and see if they are available for an hour.

The next IDAS volunteer meeting is on 8th March at 6.30 at IDAS offices 39 Blossom Street. If you can’t make this please let me know your availability and I will try to coordinate an alternative meeting.

Really excited to hear from all of you and to pull this event together!

Thanks again for all you help.
