Reclaim the Night 2017

Saturday 25 Nov, 5.30pm

Held on United Nations Day to eliminate violence against women and begins 6 days of activism which aim to end all types of gender based violence. Following an IDAS candlelit vigil, gather at 5.30pm in St Helen’s Square, Central York – next to the big Bettys – for about 1/2 hour march on a wheelchair accessible route. Afterwards will be a speech by NUS NEC Second Place Women’s Officer Sarah Lasoye.

York has already made it’s stand and our police force now record misogyny as a hate crime. We stand alongside victims of all genders and sexualities. Bring your friends, your banners and your voices.

Historically the Reclaim the Night March has been held to reclaiming the streets for women, and highlights the very prevalent global issues with sexual violence and domestic abuse against women. We know that everyone can be affected by sexual violence, abuse and harassment but it is also important to draw attention to the disproportionately large number of incidents which occur against women.

Hosted by University of York Women’s Rugby Club. Further details via Facebook Event.
